You're getting some really great character development for Harry/Luna. The runework is very creative and quite interesting, I don't think I've read any other fics that give more than a really few basic runes. OH, and "Holy basket of house elf eggs!" I just had to say that had me laffin almost as much as Hack's personal problems. Maybe he'd appreciate a tub of axle grease for payment on the mercenary work?

"No. Hack’s dick hurt." LOL!!!
I shudder to think of *why*. Are there magical STDs? Is it just common troll um... acts that lead to that state? - please don't answer that.

On an editorial note, this is the second chapter with no real issues! Impressive! In did catch an incorrect use of 'then' where a 'than' should have been, but otherwise it was perfect!

Well, I'm on to the next chapter now!
Thanks!

At the risk of sounding like a jerk wouldn't a course like ancient runes have started in third year? I think i remember a scene in COS when Harry and Ron pick classes.

Much of it so far is memorization and translation through third year.

JBern replied:

You are correct.   I meant to say that third year is all memorization.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of the story.~Jim

Hahahahahaha, Collins is hilarious. That was fucking awesome.

"No. Hack's dick hurt."

I should've heeded your advice to not eat or drink while reading this. My keyboard is now covered in rootbeer. Oh boy... haha.

JBern replied:

You were warned.   What can I say?~Jim

"No. Hack’s dick hurt."

Well you asked — and you think you have girl problems!

Hehehe.

JBern replied:

Several people owned up to spewing food and beverage at their monitors and keyboards.   I considered that a punchline well-delivered.~Jim

Harry's "Your jungle! Yours!" section was brilliant. I also really liked Bill's cat joke. Hack is crude but very funny. The gentle edging forwards of Harry and Luna's relationship was also good fun.

JBern replied:

I acutally borrowed the Your jungle line from Alex the lion in Madagascar, but it fit pretty well.~Jim

> Hack’s dick hurt.
*blink* *laugh* Oh, poor Hack :)

First time I've read this story. Starts out kinda odd, but then that's the point. Picks up and turns into a fascinating tale after that.

I do like your version of animagery (animage? animagus?) training. Your differences between Native American and European magical schools of thought are interesting reading.

Not so sure I like the whole Karina situation. Your call on that one, though. Good sub-plot if nothing else.

JBern replied:

Thanks for taking time out to both read and review.   Chapter 15 is at 6000 words and I should be finishing it by tomorrow evening.

Hack the Jungle Troll will be a permanent fixture for the rest of the story.   I had so much fun writing that line.    Almost a dozen people have reviewed and let me know that they had spewed either food or beverage, or broke up laughing at 2 in the morning waking people up in the house.   Part of this story revolves around good comedic timing.

I wanted to give different looks to various parts of the world.   I had a reviewer accuse me of doing the 'everything Hogwarts does is wrong' thing.   Not really, Thundercloud was quick to point out how the organized structure of European magic was well suited for combat.   There is also a taste of Magical South America where everyone gets 3 years.   Anything beyond that involves either private schooling, personal tutors or a guild like structure.

The Karina situation, train wreck that it is comes to it's dramatic conclusion in chapter 15.

I was surprised you didn't say anything about my take on Wards and Curse Breaking.   I am  just as proud of that as my depiction of animagery.

Jim

I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything as I read the last few lines of this one, it would have taken hours to get the liquid off the monitor and out of the keyboard! Another great zing at the end. Keep em' coming, we'll keep reading and reviewing!

JBern replied:

A few brave and honest souls have admitted choking and snorting their beverages.   I consider it a punchline well delivered.   Glad you enjoyed~Jim

The trolls continue to stagger forward against the wards. They reach the edge of the incapacitation layer. The ropes and chains spring out of the ground, but rebound harmlessly against their rough-hewn wooden shields. Time to see how well you can spellchain. Kwan taught you a simple three-spell spellchain to use, blasting curse, severing charm and bludgeoner. All the movements basically flow into each other.

"Tonare!" Swish high, swish to center, jab directly at target.

And from this paragraph on everything is in italic. Could you fix this error in formatting?

JBern replied:

Must be a glitch.   The chapter appears fine on my pc going to ffa.   I'll check it from another pc and verify.   What web browser are you using?~Jim

I really like your Luna. She's a great Luna for Harry and I can see them being happy together thumbing their noses at the rest of the Wizarding world.

Once again, I am even more impressed with your creativity with runes and warding.

I can't get out of my mind the idea that Bill knew a little more about what was happening with Harry than he let on when they first met in your story at Grimmauld Place. I don't know why I think that. In my speculation, he did not approve of it, but there was nothing he could do to stop it so he didn't try. This will cause a little bit of trouble later on, but the two will overcome it.

Just my speculation.

Marvelous tale!

JBern replied:

Thanks.   Well Bill did manage to accumulate an awful lot of information about Harry in a little time.   So that is a distinct possibility.   Dumbledore was using him as a courier   to the Goblins.   It's possible he was doing things for Remus in his position as executor of the Black trust.~Jim

So far this has been a very enjoyable story. Very believable too. I think it's the first time I've read a story that covered ward construction as completely as yours. Please keep writing more!!!

JBern replied:

When I started this story, I wanted Indiana Jones mixed with a bit of a first person shooter game and a touch of inner monologue like a 'R'  rated version of that TV show 'The Wonder Years'.   So far it is coming off better than expected.   Thanks for the review.~Jim

First I want to welcome you to ffauthors.net. Now that I have gotten to this point in your story, I want to say that I am really enjoying your storyline. I have never read a story were just Bill is helping Harry. I like how you had everyone trying to control how Harry lives his live. I hope you update soon.

MPF
P.S. You can't get busted reading at work when you are the Boss.

JBern replied:

Thank you for the welcome.   I am happy that you are enjoying the storyline.   Chapter 14 is in the works and should be ready during the weekend.

It's good to be the boss, isn't it?

*sits at desk wearing straightjacket typing with toes* Great job! The last bit with Hack (s/p?) made me laugh the hardest along with the animated drawing of Amazing Ferret-boy.

*guard knocks on door to padded cell* Uh-oh... well, hope to see updates soon and keep up the good work! *hides lap-top under desk... starts laughing maniacally again... guard shakes head and leaves*

JBern replied:

Well I am glad not to have gotten you in trouble with the guard.   Padded rooms are very comfy aren't they?

Seriously, glad you are enjoying the story.~Jim

'No. Hack's dick hurt'. Comedy Gold!
I am shaking my head and trying to not laugh out loud at work.

Good story. I like the teen angst angle with Harry & Luna. Too many fanfics act like no one is awkward at that age. Welcome to fanficauthors! Another great story at a great site!

JBern replied:

Glad you managed not to get busted.   Thank you for the compliments.   I am starting chapter 14 today and hope to have it up by the weekend.~Jim
