Haha! That would be one hell of a family motto! But would he want to burden potential future generations with it?

Another evil cliffhanger!

Thanks for posting before the new year!

Editorial notes:
"...at this point and time."

JBern replied:

Thanks for the editorial note.   Goes to show why I still need extra eyes looking at the chapters.   I'll fix it when I get a chance.~Jim

This was a good filler chapter. Some necessary development, with the tournament kind of on hold. So, is Aimee out of the Tournament, and out of the story as well?
I do like that you finally got to the Harry/Fleur, and then said, "Eh, maybe not. Wait a little longer." It gave us confirmation that the story is going in the promised direction, but the decline was well done.
The duelling with Sirius and Remus reminded us of HJ's true skills, which I think we may have forgotten about. Really looking forward to the magic duels.
I thought you were going to scrap the water task? I did notice that "and run an obstacle course" bit that would make it different from the canon task. Are the "treasures" still going to be people? Can the hat drown?

The update surprised me, coming so soon after the last one. Thanks a bunch. It seems like you're the only author on FFA.net updating his fics.

JBern replied:

Aimee will be back for the sequel.   This story will likely run 25 chapters.

I decided to reuse the water task in a modified state.   You'll have to wait and see what will be down there.   More coming soon.

Good stuff. Nice cliffie. I'm too sick to comment further.

JBern replied:

Finally catching up on my replies.   I hope you got better quickly.~Jim

Wow! This was a great chapter. I really like the choices that HJ is making. The fact that he could have saved Aimee a lot of pain and suffering but didn't is understandable. He would have like to save all three I am sure but he had to make a choice and I think he made the right one. Neville needs to have one of his parents back. Someone that could love him for the person he is and not the person his grandmother wants him to be. I like the way that Harry and Dumbledore had their conversation about Harry's weekend. That was very well done. I look forward to more of this story especially since you left us with a minor cliff-hanger. Thanks for writing. pms

JBern replied:

Thanks.   I'm glad you liked the chapter and I'm about to start the next chapter, so more coming soon.~Jim

AAAARRRGHHH! Didn't narrow down the choices AT ALL! The way you finished this one didn't eliminate ANY possibilities... even the "split the potion between them" one. (It'd be an awkward grammatical conjugation, but it could be justified.)

JBern, I've gotta say that you're talented - this cliffy hooked me the way few can.

But dammit, now you'd BETTER get the next chapter out quickly, or you're going to start causing deprivation-related medical issues amongst your readership!

JBern replied:

I'm starting the next chapter tomorrow.   Hopefully you'll hold out a bit longer...

Good chapter, I like how HJ "resolved" the conflict with Lupin.

Thanks for the review and the correction.

Such a giver you are, providing your beta team with a whole hour and thirty-five minutes off.

Brilliant update, but then again, this whole story is brilliant. You have a real gift with character development. That, and keeping your readers desperately wanting more.

Happy new year.

JBern replied:

Well technically it was longer in my time zone, but what can I say?   I'm a giving kind of guy!

Sorry for the late review since I read this last night, but better late than never no? Thanks for the chapter, I really think it was the right way to bring in the new year.

I am expecting HJ to try to bring Alice back. No real reason why, but it just seems like what is going to happen. I was kinda torn between Alice and Lockhart but in the end I think HJ is secretly hoping to win "Best Smile" award this year.

Looking forward to more of the Triwizard Tournament and other competitions there, although HJ probably didn't think what it would look like with Cho riding his Firebolt while Aimee is in a hospitol in France.

JBern replied:

Sorry for the late response, but I figured that I'd clear out all the reviews before I start on the next chapter.   Thanks for yours.~Jim

As always a fabulous read. I can't single out any specific part as I totally enjoyed all of it. I did like the last section very much - HJ having to make that choice. How will Neville react?

JBern replied:

Glad you enjoyed it.   More on the way.~Jim

It's OBVIOUS who he chose - Lockhart! :)

Thanks for the update - I read it while fireworks went off around my place. It was somewhat fitting.

This story is becoming quite a Tour de Force, Jim. You're even rounding up the Flamels which occur in Book 1... Which makes me wonder if the Basilisk would be making an appearance - maybe a dating place? =)
Thanks for the chapter, great as usual. I thought you said something about the title being "And there were Five..". Heh. Got trolled. Thanks for being able to think of something unexpected every chapter.
A happy New Year to you and your family =)

JBern replied:

I was going to call it that, but changed my mind based on the last scene.   I'm glad you appreciate my characterization of the Flamels.   New stuff coming soon!~Jim
