Is Hack a gourmet too? Or would he be a gourmand?
Excellent chapter. Loved the verbal badinage between Harry and Dumbles, the scene with Luna and the tension with Hermione.
I am eager to find out the Dementor's message, and the goblin stuff will be fun too.

JBern replied:

From Bungle - Hack liked it when flies got in his food.   It made things crunchy!   Glad that you're intrigued about where things are headed.   Next update in 3-4 weeks.~Jim

Huzzah! An update! A good update!

Five things stick out for me. In no particular order:

Dumbledore leaving Dung in Azkaban. He's...cold. Very cold.

Luna is always good. Enough said.

Bill as a Niffler. Surprising yet appropriate. Also, highly amusing.

Dementors. If one assumes that they hear the memory of the 'worst experience' when that effect kicks in... Well. Those Dementors that remembered little Harry's parent-memories and were looking to hear them again got a nasty shock. Just on general principle, I think even something as nasty as a Dementor might have reason to worry - something bigger might be hanging around. Wonder what the note will say.

Lastly, Snape. I have no idea whatsoever how that is going to go. But I'll put a few Knuts on wandfire being involved by the end of that talk.

JBern replied:

Glad things stuck out and really made you notice especially in what was a transition chapter.   I had originally planned on a longer chapter, but it was already over 9,500 words and I didn't want to launch the next arc otherwise I'd have been writing another full chapter.   That'll have to wait for 3-4weeks.~Jim

LOL, loved the words of Hack! He's the bestest ever troll around is what he is! I wouldn't mind my own HACK!

Now onto the chapter - it seems the problems between Harry and Dumbles hasn't gotten any better. We have two immovable objects and they're going to drive each other buggaloo. Which is probably only right considering...

Anyway... one must away now but had to say, as usual, love the chapter!!! You do spin a good yarn, dear Jim!

JBern replied:

I got a good laugh out of it as well.   Yes the tension between Harry and Dumbledore is pretty intense.   Thank you for the compliments and I hope my success here will bleed over into my original works.~Jim

"Careful Potter, you're outnumbered." Truer words were never spoken. Loved the entire Harry/Luna scene. It was really well done.

How the hell did you make the dementors creepier than they were in canon? Seriously, that's no mean feat.

As for the Dumbledore stuff, it was well done. I like that you make it so fun to hate the bastard, but then watching Harry and Dumbledore working together to such great effect just as fun. Their tag-team interrogation of Mungdungus was pretty brilliant.

In short, great chapter and I dig the cliffhanger. I love scenes with Snape. After all, a scene with Snape is a scene where the bullying bastard can be brutally murdered or just get the crap beaten out of him.

JBern replied:

Glad you enjoyed the chapter.   I hope to continue impressing you and the rest of the readers.   I think the dementors should be as creepy as possible.   Too many stories give Dumbledore as comical falling over himself to be evil.   I want the readers to really hate him which means he needs to be evil and somewhat effective.~Jim

Awesome chapter. To summarize:

Dumbledore's a "right foul bastard."

Fleur's a perv.

Hack's a troll about town (even though that's in the omake)

But those are things we all should have known by now. So what did we truly learn? Snape's going to get ripped a new one (or so I hope) in the next update.

How are you writing for both your stories? Are you alternating updates, or are you just writing when it comes to you?

Like I said, great chapter,

HoG

JBern replied:

Well I have to thank Garret PI for the omake, but yes Dumbledore is a bastard and Fleur is definitely a perv.   Generally, I alternate updates, so Lie chapter 11 will be started next soon.~Jim

Shooting the breeze with Snape!? Now that ´s a cliffhanger. Very curious about the note from the wraiths. I notice H didn ´t try to avoid giving D a copy. That ´s worrying. Excellent chapter. Great sniping with D.

JBern replied:

Harry is just as curious about what the note says as you are.   Who wouldn't like a late night conversation with Snape?~Jim

Oh, how beautiful. Not one character had the slightest cardboard feel, not that they ever do, but it was so unbelievably real in this chapter. When Harry walked in on Fleur and Luna, the whole scene was so ... i don't know, everyday? Like something that happens on a slightly unusual day. There was no drama, no cupids in the air, no soft lens or anything. It just happened. *kowtow*
The photo session makes me wonder what kind of photos there might be of Harry?
I did miss Hack, loved the Hermionaction, and I'm still dying for details on the Weasley family reunion. Bill and his Mummy, i mean. Sounds good, doesn't it? Ah well. Have some Sunshine!

JBern replied:

I missed Hack as well.   I'll fix that next chapter.   Glad you enjoyed the chapter and hope that my stuff continues to impress you.~Jim

Very Nice update.

I think sometime in the future you'll need a scene with Fleur walking in on Luna and Harry Au Natural.

JBern replied:

Assuming Harry can ever get Luna au natural, it would be ironic for Fleur to walk in on them.~Jim

Delightful, as always. I do like the angry/petulant Harry taking on Dumbledore. I don't personally see Dumbles in that light, but I can see why it's believable. Your Harry is having fun having it out with him, and the way you've written him doing so is great reading. Cheers!

JBern replied:

Glad you liked it so much.   Too many stories have Dumbledore falling over himself to be "evil" and "manipulative" just like Bill is always fanonishly "cool."   I wanted to deliver stories where you see both these characters and believe it.~Jim

i'll see you around on your next update... either here or in Lie I've Lived... =)
Adios for now...

Good work. I'm almost starting to feel sorry for Granger. Haryy basically said, "I like you, I just can't trust you."

Her betrayal hurt Harry and he has no problem expressing that to her.   Next update in 3-4 weeks.~Jim

So, No shit, there I was, just tumbling out of bed, and bam, up on the big screen pops a message..Update: Turn Me Loose: A Harry Potter Adventure: Or No Way at All.

And I'm thinking, damn, bathroom or reading, bathroom or reading...

Then I realize, I have a PDA! with web access!

I can do both!

suddenly I no longer wish to entertain this reviewing with the rehash of the morning ablutions.

Anyway, brilliant work as always, I still think albus is an asshat, - no offense to your other work, the hat in that is a brilliant ass. Still love Kwan and Bill is as fantastic as ever in lingerie and fur. Had to stop from laughing at the idea of a niffler Bill.

Luna is Luna is Luna. Nice foil to Harry, and such a tease! I think that you are progressing their relationship VERY nicely. Not too much, not to cold. Luna is like a fine porridge, just right. or is that slightly lumpy yet slurpable? LOL

Cant wait to meet the arranger, and just what did the dememtors say in demonic script?

Flopping around this weekend - working on the bike - Gotta love that Texas weather!

Thanks for another great chapter.

JBern replied:

That's some stuff I'll file under Too Much Information about Fish...

Glad you enjoyed the chapter and I hope you get your bike working.~Jim

Excellent chapter -- Dumbles is showing himself to be an even bigger bastard than I had suspected. Poor Hermy -- as in canon, she often pushes ahead without thinking of personal consequences. She might have every thing else thought out, but not how other people might react.

Snape should be interesting.

"T"

JBern replied:

Glad you liked the chapter.   I really want people to see Dumbledore a bastard wrapped in the cloak of the great leader of the light.

Poor Hermy indeed...more on that later.~Jim

No, Hack just no want to read.

Again, an excellent chapter. Your Dumbledore is very well characterized, his choices being logical from his point of view, which is rather bastardized from our point of view. Too many stories have him being evil for evil's sake, not showing that he is ruthless and a bastard, but only as it is logical for what he wants, not as an end itself.

Thank you for writing.

Mike (MoA)

JBern replied:

I agree wholeheartedly.   If Dumbledore is going to be a bastard, he should be one with an agenda.   Glad you liked it.~Jim

a whole lot of plot going on there, and the mask on dumblie has pretty much not just slipped but been thrown on the floor and stomped on.

You have done a fabulous job of displaying how some of the most evil people have an endless capacity for self delusion and can convince themselves that the so-called ends justify the means.
A definition of humility that i have seen is along the lines of "...being able to see one's true self, strengths and weakness together."
Dumblie is obviously unable to internalize that his errors are having some truly horrific consequences for his too loyal followers.

thanks - I really enjoy your stories

JBern replied:

Sadly only Harry and his trusted circle can see through that mask.   Glad you like it so much.   Next update in 3-4 weeks.~Jim

Nice part here, and really got a kick out of the Luna/Harry interaction here, the two of them might have a long-term relationship, or may not, but at least it doesn't seem to be locked in stone like JKR did in the canon, where there could be no variance at all it seems. Dumbledore is the height of arrogance it seems, and he's so sure of himself that I'd wager he wouldn't turn his course no matter what. I like what someone else wrote recently, he seems to give so many second chances to those in the dark, while the light get little to no respect, and in fact seems to punish those folks trying to help him. Neat moment with Bill the niffler, and Hermione, she seems to want to fix things, but unless something happens to directly thrust her back in Harry's good graces, I don't see the two of them ever having more than a semi-hostile relationship.

JBern replied:

Well, Harry and Luna are enjoying a pleasant interlude.   Do you think it'll last?   Tough to say especially with all this chaos.   Thanks for all the reviews.   Next update is to Lie in 1-2 weeks.   This one in 3-4 weeks.~Jim

Snape eh, is this Dumbledore testing Harry, or something more nefarious.

I'm waiting for the fic when he kisses Harry and calls him Lily....(disturbing imagery)

So he truly is finished with Hermione, and yet somehow he can forgive Ron. Of course, sadly that is all too canon.

Its good to see Dumbledore knocked down a notch, and frankly its rather obvious that he can't wage an effective war against Voldemort. Being outmaneuvered at every turn seems to prove as much.

Maybe he is overcompensating with Harry due to his failures with Riddle. That would be an amusing line for Harry to sput off at Dumbledore.

Bill, a niffler animagus, well once a treasure hunter, always a treausre hunter.

Thanks for writing,
Matt

JBern replied:

Snape - yes and yes.   How's that for an answer.   Disturbing image there - kinda creeps me out.
