This is a really interesting concept and very well written. I like the way that things don't always go exactly as he plans and the hat is hilarious, also Fawkes seems to be on Harry's side which could be interesting. I look forward to reading more.
JBern replied:
Fawkes is on his own side. Glad you are enjoying the story. More coming soon.~Jim

loved it. it has that tang i've come to appreciate of your works, a writing style most prominent in Bungle in the Jungle ^^ while at the same time a style on its own (BitJ writing style always seemed a tad over the top to me)
love what youve done with the sorting hat, he spits insults like a machine gun, all very interesting ones aswell. keep up the good work, awaits your next update, for any fic. or mayb even the sequel to BitJ?? =P wishful thinking ne
JBern replied:
I'm working on the sequel to Bungle. It'll be along eventually. Glad you like the style. I hope the coming chapters will impress you just as much.~Jim

This has been a fantastic read. I'll write a more in depth review when I'm not on my pda. Thanks for writing =)

Just re-reading as I wait for book 7 (3 days, 7 hours, 13 minutes) and your a/n caught my eye. When I re-read COS in preparation for DH, my inner conspiracy theorist came out and suggested that Dobby may have been acting on Malfoy's orders all throught the book. Made me see the story in a totally different light
JBern replied:
Well, hope you enjoyed DH more than I did. Glad my story got you thinking.~Jim

I enjoyed the action - nice and snappy as always - but for some reason I appreciated the follow-up inquisition even more. Some fanfics don't do the carry-through on such things. With the events of the battle firmly in my mind I was fully on Harry's side and angry with/for him when Malfoy did his verbal dueling.
I'm a bit confused at your extension of the tournament to include an all-school team and other events. Sure, it makes sense, as you say, but it moves this story from 'AU differing from canon in only one critical respect' (James's consciousness emerging) to a story with multiple divergences from the series. Well, not 'confused', but it makes the story a little less 'neat', if you know what I mean. Your call, of course, and I dare say it will make the story more interesting. I want to read about Hermione beating everyone else in the intellectual challenges!!! :-)
So glad you/HJ told Hermione what she was doing wrong wth the elves; that needed doing. I was going to bristle about her umbrage at being 'shown up' by Harry being out of character, but I guess it's exactly the same as her reaction to Harry 'cheating' with the potions book in HBP; so I'll be quiet. And anyway, you've told me you'll ignore any pleas I make on Hermione's behalf ... :-)
JBern replied:
I'll eventually do a H/Hr story, but this ain't gonna be it. I think you'll enjoy the revamped tournament on some levels, but not others.~Jim

land gifted to the Potter family by Henry II in 1170 for helping extricate the king from a problem involving a certain clergyman
That's a good one for those of us with a nodding acquaintance with English history.

Thanks again. I'll be brief since we've already 'talked' offline. More coming soon.~Jim

So far so good. I'm liking this story very much -- and I absolutly love The Hat... hope Harry shows Hermione how to see the hidden messahes in the songs... and Harry hasn't even met Fleur yet!
Keep up the great work, and update soon.
JBern replied:
Next chapter coming soon. Fleur will show up this chapter.~Jim

LOL! I just love that Hat... impkying that Harry was gay... Well, Dumbledore did warn him!
Liked Harry making the moves on Penny... too bad he crashed an burned (but as you're probably saving him for Fleur, that's alright).
Too bad Ginny got the wrong idea, hope Harry's able to let her (and Katie) down gently (when he starts-up with Fleur).
So Harry is going to take on the death-eaters? This should be good...
Keep up the good work.
JBern replied:
The Hat does need it's entertainment...
Hope the story continues to impress you.~Jim

Snicker! Loved the banana-split... wonder if Bell is/becomes interested...
They sold Godric’s Hollow?!? Does he have any other land or property left (like the remains of the burnt-down Potter-mansion)?
JBern replied:
Yeah. HJ has more property left and you know that Bell is interested, but HJ really isn't.~Jim

LOL! The Sorting-Hat with a seriously bad attitude... and with a mouth (or whatever) to go with it! I especially liked the crack about Dumbledore and McGonagal "proving" things to themselves.
The idea that (a piece of) James -- and maybe only James -- survived inside baby-Harry's head is a novell one (I must admit I hope it's a matter of "shared accomedations)... can't wait to see were you take it. Does Dumbledore know -- or suspect? How about Voldemort? A soon-to-be 4th year with knowledge of auror-level spells, should be interesting... maybe he even can use some magic on his relatives, if the monitoring-spells reads him as an adult -- and maybe even an auror. In any case, James should have some dirt on the Dursleys...
I'm also looking forward to Harry's upcomming relationship with Fleur; a 25-30 y/o stuck inside the body of a 14 y/o -- perhaps together with a 14 y/o -- trying to woo a 17 y/o veela... she should at least be surprised by his maturity -- and perhaps his knowledge of the female body.
Keep up the great work.
(Yes, I know you've already have more chapters up, but I just had to comment on the Sorting-Hat.)
JBern replied:
Hopefully the image of DD and MM isn't burned into your mind...
HJ may never know whether he is Harry or James, although if his wand crosses Voldemort's wand, we may get an answer or two (or more questions!). Jim

Wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your writing. I just found this site about a month ago, and have gotten up-to-date with your various stories. They are all great fun to read. You've got good range and gift for weaving action and humor together. Your writing reminds me a bit of Donald E. Westlake. He might have been before your time, but wrote a great number of very funny caper books, but other things as well. Keep up the good work; I really look forward to your updates.
JBern replied:
Thank you very much. I'm not familiar with the writer you mention, but he sounds like a good one. I hope my future efforts continue to impress you.~Jim

Cool story. New idea, never read anything like this before! How did you come up with the idea of Harry sort of being James, too? And I love the sarcasm. So funny! Well, I will be looking forward to the next chapters.
JBern replied:
All those times in stories where Snape says that Harry is just like his father. That got me thinking what if he was... That's where the idea originated from. Using the Dementors to shake loose the repressed memories was a natural plot device.~Jim

Finally fleura can come :D im looking forward to seeing HJ actually use his lady skills.
I love this story so far your doing well with the humour.
I also think your ideas for more contests sounds great.
It said in the book james was quite intelligent and did well in all his classes and especially in transfiguration. Lets not forget this is harry also and he has a natural talent for DADA so with jamses knowledge he should do well with that. So he will be able to out do any of these school kids easily.
Anyway im looking forward to the next update keep up the good work.

Glad you liked it. Next chapter coming in 2-3 weeks.~Jim

Oh, now *this* is weird; Harry (and James) are *related* to the infamous Bloody Baron (the Slytherin House ghost).....*EEEEP*! Just how deep does this Potter and Slytherin Connection go?
JBern replied:
The Baron's backstory is coming next chapter.~Jim

Another excellent chapter! More humor from the Hat, some fun plotting against Snivellus, and the Tournament approaches. I liked the talk with Hermione about house elves, and your plans for the Tournament -- much more realitic approaches to both.
How will Harry (or HJ) end up in the Tournament? Having known Moody, I'm guessing the polyjuice won't be enough.
JBern replied:
You'll just have to wait and see...~Jim
